PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Black Coleman (ranked 3134 p4p, 305 weight class) and Johannes Maanpohja (ranked 4951 p4p, 432 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 33 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Black Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 44 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johannes Maanpohja!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coleman swinging wildly here.
Maanpohja fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Coleman. No joy for Maanpohja on that attempt.
Coleman works Maanpohja's body with a nice hook.
Maanpohja moves forwards but Coleman connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Maanpohja looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Coleman digs a good body shot into Maanpohja's ribs.
Maanpohja changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Coleman tries to avoid it but Maanpohja manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Coleman to the ground. Coleman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Black Coleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johannes Maanpohja.
Coleman lands with a shot to the body.
Maanpohja has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maanpohja drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Coleman scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Johannes Maanpohja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maanpohja is trying hard to land a takedown here. Coleman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Maanpohja dives in for a single leg takedown but Coleman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Coleman scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Maanpohja shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Coleman as he avoids it easily.

Coleman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Maanpohja is trying to get back to half guard.

Coleman decides to stand back up. Coleman steps back and let's Maanpohja get back to his feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Coleman. Maanpohja does a little dance to reset his feet.
Maanpohja closes this distance looking for a takedown but Coleman circles away.

Maanpohja's coach down at whitey's gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Maanpohja's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Maanpohja tries for a takedown but Coleman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Coleman closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Coleman is looking to wear down Maanpohja with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Coleman scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Coleman has closed the distance and engaged Maanpohja in a clinch.

Maanpohja turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Coleman sneaks back into half guard.
Maanpohja stops Coleman from getting back to his feet.
Coleman is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Grind Time [ *Double Elite Coaches] that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Coleman is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Maanpohja is controlling him well.

Maanpohja has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Coleman is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Maanpohja yanks on the arm and Coleman is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Maanpohja.
