Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 1681 p4p, 206 weight class) and Junior Iron (ranked 3798 p4p, 365 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent. Royce Gracie has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Junior Iron!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iron throws a combination that misses

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Iron kicks Gracie off and gets back to his feet.
Iron moves out of range as Gracie strikes.
Iron throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Iron.
Iron showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gracie.
Iron swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Iron stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Iron wants it to stay on the feet.
Iron is looking for the big counter here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Iron lands a nice hook to Gracie's body. Gracie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Iron fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.
Gracie uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Iron.
Gracie changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gracie defending well as Iron loads up on a big left hand.
A looping hook to the body misses from Iron. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet.
Iron tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gracie was well out of range. Poor timing from Iron.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A head kick misses from Iron.
Iron throws an overhand right that lands on Gracie's shoulder, as Gracie tries to avoid the shot.
Iron misses with a head kick.
Gracie checks a low kick from Iron.
Iron throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Iron misses with the combination.

Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Iron looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gracie being controlled here momentarily.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Iron not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Iron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gracie with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Gracie works over Iron with some ground and pound from guard.
Gracie throws a big right hand that misses.
Gracie landing with the ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gracie works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Iron tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
Iron really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie trying to control from half guard but Iron is working away.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura but Iron is defending well.
Iron is trying to get back to full guard.

Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie wants to pass to mount but Iron is defending the position.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gracie is nestled in close to Iron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Gracie wants to advance to full mount but Iron doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Gracie is working Iron over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Iron keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Iron looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Iron is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Iron manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Iron's guard.
Gracie cracks Iron with a solid left hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Royce Gracie will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Iron rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gracie moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gracie tries to counter with a takedown but Iron is quick to defend against it.
Gracie shoots in but no luck this time.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Iron is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Iron circles away and we're back to standing.
Gracie slips a straight right by Iron.
Iron throws a lazy head kick

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Iron looking to control.
Royce Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Iron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Iron lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Gracie is looking to cinch up a triangle. Iron throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Gracie's body to avoid the submission. Gracie has instead reached around Iron's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Gracie arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Royce Gracie!
