PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Steward (ranked 5176 p4p, 584 weight class) and Frank Curtis (ranked 3340 p4p, 434 weight class). Steward comes into the arena with CFO% - Worlds Apart blaring out of the sound system. Curtis has chosen Russian Circles - Geneva as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Steward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Curtis!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Steve Montenegro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steward throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Curtis misses with a wild body shot.
Steward tries to counter by clinching up but Curtis breaks away and moves out of range.
Curtis tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A swing and a miss from Curtis.
Curtis throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Steve Steward has been cut.
The fighters circling - Steward throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Steward scoring well with a low kick there.
Steward throws a head kick that misses
and Curtis counters with a three punch combo that has Steward backing up. Steward nods at Curtis to acknowledge the strikes.
A looping hook to the body misses from Steward. Curtis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Curtis throws a shot from downtown. Steward moves away and avoids it.
It looked like Steward was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Curtis.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Steward buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Curtis connects with a right hand. Steward shakes it off.
Curtis misses with a head kick.
Steward was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Decent striking displayed by Curtis there.
Steward lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Steward throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Curtis bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Steward's head.


Steward is rocked!
Steward throws a hook to the side of Curtis's head but Curtis sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Oh Steward is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Steward fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Steward seems to have got his legs back now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Curtis misses with a combination
and Curtis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Steward gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Steward lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Curtis backwards.

Steward goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A shot in the inside from Steward.
Steward fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Steward landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Curtis.
We've been hearing reports that Steward has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Curtis throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Steward tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Curtis's elbow.
Steward lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Steward tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Curtis lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Steward or not.
Steward lands a left hand that snaps the head of Curtis backwards.
Steward with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Steward is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Curtis is defending well for now.
Still in the clinch, Curtis scores with a nice short uppercut.
Steward lands a left hand that snaps the head of Curtis backwards.
Steward lands a shoulder strike.
Steward working aggressively here.
Steward misses with a knee to the head.
Steward goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Curtis holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Curtis pushes Steward back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Steward misses with a body punch.
Steward tries to land knees in the clinch but Curtis avoids the damage to the body.

Steward using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Curtis has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Steward looking to throw knees to the head but Curtis is blocking nicely.
Steward working aggressively here.
Steward tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Curtis lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
A right hook to the body lands for Curtis.
Steward is breathing heavily.
Curtis lands a nice uppercut.
Curtis misses with a knee to the head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Curtis creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Curtis lands a body shot.
Steward is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Curtis is defending well for now.
Steward's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!


Steve Steward's cut is getting worse.
Steward takes a shot to the head.
Steward tries a knee to the head but Curtis blocks it.
Steward misses with a knee to the head.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Curtis.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Steward with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Curtis working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Curtis lands with a right to the head.
Curtis digs a right hand underneath Steward's ribcage. Steward let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Curtis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Curtis works Steward's body with a nice hook.
Curtis closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Steward! Curtis dives in looking to finish! Steward is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frank Curtis!
In his post fight interview, Frank Curtis started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
