Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Mason (ranked 1940 p4p, 288 weight class) and Jan Molby (ranked 4689 p4p, 560 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Max Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jan Molby!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Molby tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mason swivels and escapes.
Molby tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Molby wants to clinch but Mason slips to the side
letting Mason counter with a right hand.
Molby throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Mason counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Molby has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Molby fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mason, pushing him back against the cage.
Molby has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mason is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Molby tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
I was talking to Mason's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mason is looking to break free of the clinch but Molby has double underhooks.

Mason's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Molby takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Molby walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Max Mason is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Mason cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Mason cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mason is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Molby tries to score with a low kick but Mason moves his leg out of the way.

Molby tries to close the distance and clinch but Mason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Molby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mason sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Molby somewhat.

Molby moves to clinch but Mason breaks away
and Mason connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Mason leaves Molby with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Molby misses with a head kick.
Molby wants to clinch up but Mason keeps it at a distance.
Mason's corner calls for a 1-2. Mason obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Molby takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mason lands a slapping body shot.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mason uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Molby has time to react.
Mason avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Molby tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mason paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Molby doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Mason scores with a jab to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Mason dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mason lands with a good body shot.
Mason is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Molby can do to turn this around?
Mason thuds his right hand into Molby's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Mason catches Molby with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Molby avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Mason throws a body punch but Molby moves out of range.
Mason keeps the fight on the outside.

Molby just misses with a punch to the body.

Molby shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mason's guard.

Molby is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Molby wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mason on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mason tries to get out of the position.

Molby is keen to just control but Mason is a slippery customer.
Molby might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mason haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mason knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Molby on the ground.
Molby wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mason keeps working.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Mason counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
No luck for Molby with that takedown attempt.

Mason's jab looks to have found its range, popping Molby under the eye.

Molby has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mason finds it's way round the side to connect with Molby's head.
Mason lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Mason feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Molbys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!


Molby is rocked!
Molby has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.

Mason lands a big uppercut and Molby crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Molby looks OK. Mason waves Molby back to his feet!
Molby is still on wobbly legs! Can Mason finish him?
Mason sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Molby's defenses. It connects perfectly with Molby's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Max Mason!
After winning the bout, Max Mason thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
