PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bed Intruder (ranked 124 p4p, 14 weight class) and Gary Tonon (ranked 678 p4p, 77 weight class). Intruder comes to the cage accompanied by Bed Intruder. Tonon has chosen What About Now as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 19 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gary Tonon!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tonon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Intruder missing with a left hand there. Tonon was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Tonon is looking to clinch but Intruder is avoiding it.
Tonon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Intruder tries to avoid it but Tonon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Intruder to the ground. Intruder escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Intruder uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Tonon moves out of range of the body kick.

Tonon forces Intruder back against the cage and clinches.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Intruder creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Intruder throws a punch but it's blocked by Tonon.
Intruder lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Tonon is working for takedown but Intruder is calmly controlling the position for now.

Bed Intruder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Tonon.

Tonon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Intruder is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Tonon jumps guard but Intruder stands there with Tonon around his waist. Tonon gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Intruder pushes Tonon back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Tonon is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Intruder lands a left hand that snaps the head of Tonon backwards.
Tonon jumps guard but Intruder stands there with Tonon around his waist. Tonon gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Intruder misses with a hook from the clinch.
Intruder has a couple of punches blocked by Tonon.
Intruder can't find room to land a body shot as Tonon controls the action.
Tonon is trying to pull guard but Intruder has him pressed against the cage.

Tonon drags the fight down to the ground.
Intruder works over Tonon with some ground and pound from guard.
Intruder throwing strikes but missing.
Intruder controls from within his opponent's guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Intruder's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Bed Intruder seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tonon on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Tonon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Intruder swivels and escapes.
Intruder wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Tonon shoots in and gets a takedown into Intruder's guard.

Tonon is fighting to break Intruder's control of his arms but Intruder is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Intruder is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Intruder seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Intruder is just content to waste time from the top position. Tonon takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bed Intruder dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Intruder lets loose with a powerful body kick. Tonon will feel that in the morning.

Tonon throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Intruder was covering up waiting for the punch and Tonon finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Intruder has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Intruder.

Tonon shoots in looking for a takedown but Intruder manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tonon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Tonon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Intruder is just riding it out for now. Tonon eventually gives up the hold.

Tonon walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Tonon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Intruder defends well and Tonon ends up having to push Intruder into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tonon or perhaps it was just good defense by Intruder, which made it look bad.
Tonon takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

It looked like Intruder wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Intruder thuds his right hand into Tonon's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Intruder paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Bed Intruder showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Intruder, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
