PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Cook (ranked 2792 p4p, 293 weight class) and Techno Viking (ranked 2094 p4p, 234 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Cook might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Lil Baby - Southside. Viking has chosen Techno Viking as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Bob Cook had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Techno Viking!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook missing with a left hand there. Viking was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Viking works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Cook throws a lazy uppercut
and Viking counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
An inside leg kick from Viking misses.
Viking throws a body shot but no joy.

Viking darts in and clinches Cook up against the cage.
Viking tries to pull guard but Cook won't allow it.
Cook is looking to break free of the clinch but Viking has double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cook wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Cook throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Cook scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Cook swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cook.
Viking is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cook goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Viking is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cook to keep the fight standing.
Viking fails to pull guard.
Bob Cook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Techno Viking.
Still in the clinch, Viking scores with a nice short uppercut.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Viking.
Cook throws an elbow that misses.

Cook breaks the clinch.
Viking tests Cook's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Viking ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Cook looks to throw the jab but Viking is out of range.
Cook bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

and Viking counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Techno Viking seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cook avoids a kick to the body.
A big right from Cook misses.
Viking lands a body shot.

Viking clinches with his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cook throws an elbow that misses.
Viking jumps guard but Cook stands there with Viking around his waist. Viking gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Cook misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Viking tries to pull guard but Cook forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Viking tries to pull guard but Cook won't allow it.

Cook breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cook misses with a combination
and Viking counters with a three punch combo that has Cook backing up. Cook nods at Viking to acknowledge the strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Viking connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Viking ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Cook tries to keep at a distance but Viking has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cook fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Cook goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Viking has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cook uses from the top position.
Our spies down at at Boomerang!! PURE ELITE COACHES and Sparring Center inform us that Viking has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Viking wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Cook got a little sloppy there for a moment and Viking has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cook has managed to get both his arms back between Viking's legs - danger averted.

Cook wants to control from the top but Viking keeps moving.

Viking looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cook trying to control the position from guard on top but Viking is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Viking has control of Cook's left arm, preventing Cook from doing any damage.

Viking is looking for a triangle but Cook pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Techno Viking dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cook ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Viking moves away.
Cook drops his hands momentarily and Viking takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Viking's jab looks to have found its range, popping Cook under the eye.
A telegraphed right hand from Viking misses the target.
An attempted straight right counter from Cook misses the target.
Viking has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Viking feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cooks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Viking. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Viking has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Viking keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cook walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Viking throws a shot from downtown. Cook moves away and avoids it.
Viking connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Techno Viking seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cook misses with a lunging right hand
and Viking counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Viking lands with a shot to the body.
Viking connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cook. Cook circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

and Viking counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Viking connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Viking darts in and clinches Cook up against the cage.
Viking jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cook walks away with a smile on his face. Viking gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Viking wants to clinch.
Viking misses with a double jab.
Viking throws a hook but Cook avoids it easily.
Viking lands with a good body shot.
Cook looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
A nice side step and Viking releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Cook just misses with a punch to the body.
Viking misses with a few strikes there.
Cook was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Viking throws a looping overhand right but Cook ducks down to avoid it.
Cook looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Viking lands a jab.
Viking scores with the left hand. Cook knows he should have avoided that one.
Viking displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cook throws out the jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Viking moves into the clinch successfully.
Cook tries to break the clinch but Viking is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Techno Viking showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Cook drops Viking with a beautiful combination! Viking stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Cook is looking for the KO!


Viking is rocked!

Viking drives through and clinches with Cook against the cage.
Viking is still on wobbly legs! Can Cook finish him?

Cook breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cook displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Viking throws out the jab.
Viking fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cook manages to avoid it.
Cook connects with a nice cross there... Viking is looking wobbly and Cook recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Viking to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Cook jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Bob Cook!
In his post fight interview, Bob Cook started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
