PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kira Miyata (ranked 639 p4p, 75 weight class) and Bronson Hughes (ranked 872 p4p, 105 weight class). Miyata comes to the cage accompanied by Boa - Energetic. Hughes has chosen Slam - By: Onyx as his entrance music. Bronson Hughes is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 43 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kira Miyata!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bronson Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Hughes tries to sprawl but Miyata drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Hughes controlling the position well.
Hughes has hold of Miyata's hands but Miyata slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hughes is doing well to control the position and prevent Miyata from advancing to side control.
Miyata stalling.
Hughes wants to control but Miyata is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miyata tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hughes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hughes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miyata is working away from the top position though.

Hughes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Miyata winds up and cracks Hughes with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hughes is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Miyata is staying active.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hughes is concentrating on defense, preventing Miyata from advancing position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Miyata misses with an uppercut. Hughes saw that one coming.
Hughes throws out a counter right but Miyata avoids it with no problem.
Hughes pivots, looking for a leg kick but Miyata is out of range and Hughes settles back down.
Hughes throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Miyata steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hughes.
Hughes takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Miyata shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hughes defends it nicely.
A telegraphed right hand from Miyata misses the target.
Hughes on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Miyata takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Miyata fails with the takedown.
Miyata moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Hughes shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Bronson Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Miyata closes the distance and clinches up with Hughes, looking for a takedown. Miyata pushes Hughes against the cage but Hughes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kira Miyata. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Miyata fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hughes avoids it really well and circles away.

Miyata's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hughes under the eye.
Hughes has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Miyata finds it's way round the side to connect with Hughes's head.
Miyata shoots in for a takedown but Hughes shows good takedown defense.
Hughes changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Miyata takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Miyata swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hughes throws a hook but Miyata blocks it.
Miyata attempts a counter takedown but Hughes avoids it well and moves away.

Miyata drives through with a takedown into Hughes's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kira Miyata will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hughes throws an off balance right hand
and Miyata connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hughes lunges at Miyata with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Miyata's hand.
Hughes clobbers Miyata with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hughes has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Hughes looks to score with a jab to the body but Miyata is just out of range.
Miyata is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Hughes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Miyata.
Hughes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Miyata dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Miyata ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hughes moves away.

It seemed like Hughes was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

It looks like Miyata has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Hughes gets cracked there but stands up to it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bronson Hughes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters circle momentarily. Miyata darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Hughes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hughes throws a shot from downtown. Miyata moves away and avoids it.
Hughes throws a hook to the side of Miyata's head but Miyata sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miyata's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hughes connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Miyata scrambles back to his feet.

Hughes throws an elbow that misses. Miyata uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Miyata!

Miyata passes Hughes's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Miyata seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hughes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Miyata throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Hughes has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Miyata. Oh but Hughes has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Miyata goes limp - he's gone! Hughes jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
