Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 1676 p4p, 200 weight class) and Abdul The Refugee (ranked 17822 p4p, 683 weight class). Gracie's entrance music is Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Abdul The Refugee was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Abdul The Refugee!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The Refugee clinches up against the cage.
The Refugee taking a breather.
The Refugee tries to throw a body punch but Gracie avoids it by throwing The Refugee back against the cage.

Gracie pulls guard successfully.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The Refugee would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but The Refugee is keeping the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie wants to control from the top but The Refugee keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Refugee swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but The Refugee has wrist control.

We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The Refugee can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gracie controls the pace.
Gracie pushes down on The Refugee's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Gracie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks The Refugee with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gracie tries to pass to full mount but The Refugee defends it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but The Refugee defends the submission attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Gracie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. The Refugee tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gracie is in The Refugee's guard.

Gracie throws a strike but The Refugee rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


The Refugee is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Gracie has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. The Refugee is looking to defend but Gracie has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for The Refugee! Gracie pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, The Refugee taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Royce Gracie!
