PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Musta Laine (ranked 333 p4p, 46 weight class) and Ryu Musashi (ranked 443 p4p, 52 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Laine might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Disturbed - Sound of Silence. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laine takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A slow jab from Laine misses its intended target.
Musashi looks for a takedown but Laine sprawls well.

Musashi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Laine moves away.
Good work by Musashi as he checks the leg kick.
Laine is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Musashi.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Musashi's corner calls for a 1-2. Musashi obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

The fighters circle momentarily. Musashi darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Musashi is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Laine had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Musashi swings for the body but Laine moves out of range.

Laine throws a shot from downtown. Musashi moves away and avoids it.
And Musashi responds with a good body kick, but Laine manages to step out the way in time.

Musashi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Laine to the mat! Laine manages to get full guard.
Musashi is fighting to break Laine's control of his arms but Laine is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Laine can't keep his opponent in guard - Musashi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Musashi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Musashi forces the positional change into back control.
Musashi trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Laine is in bad spot here.
Laine manages to reverse the position and now he's in Musashi's guard. Nice work there by Laine.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Musashi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Laine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Laine is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Musashi controls Laine momentarily but Laine frees himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Musashi is on top in guard.

Musashi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Laine escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Musashi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ryu Musashi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Laine moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Musashi uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Musashi throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Laine counters with a good low kick that Musashi was not able to check.

Laine was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Musashi fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Laine checks it well.
Laine uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Musashi.
Ryu Musashi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Laine lands a leg kick that knocks Musashi off balance momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Laine uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Musashi.
Laine moves forwards but Musashi connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Musashi flicks out a counter leg kick but Laine steps away.

Laine stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Musashi.
Laine throws a right and a left that Musashi avoids nicely.
Musashi swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Laine on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Laine lands a lovely overhand right.
Musashi lands with a cross.
Laine takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Musashi. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Laine dives in and grabs Musashi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Musashi pushes down on Laine's head and hops out.
Musashi throws a solid leg kick but Laine takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Musashi.
Musashi throws out a leg kick but Laine moves out of range and Musashi only half commits.

Musashi lands with an uppercut that bounces Laine off the cage and back into range.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Musashi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ryu Musashi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Laine fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Musashi manages to avoid it.
Laine feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Musashi's calf.
Musashi moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Laine connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Musashi to the floor! Laine dives in looking for the finish!

Musashi is rocked!

It looks like Ryu Musashi has been cut.

Musashi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Laine pulls his head out easily.
Musashi is still in real trouble! Can Laine finish him?
Musashi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Laine looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Musashi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Laine is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Laine passes Musashi's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Laine lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Laine lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Musashi quite badly. Musashi pulls Laine in close trying to recover. Laine postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Musashi on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Musashi doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Musta Laine!
After the fight, Musta Laine was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
