The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lomachenko fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Date avoids it really well and circles away.
Lomachenko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Date counters with a stiff right hand.
Lomachenko throws a shot from downtown. Date moves away and avoids it.
Nice sprawl there from Date as Lomachenko shoots in.
Date is looking to counter punch.
Rokuya Date has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evgeni Lomachenko.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lomachenko darts in looking for a takedown but Date gets double underhooks and turns Lomachenko into the cage.
Date was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Lomachenko throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Lomachenko takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Date has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Lomachenko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Date is fending him off so far but Lomachenko persists. Nope, Date circles away and we're back to standing.
Date connects with a jab.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lomachenko is defended easily by Date.
Lomachenko lands with a nice body punch.
Date throws out a loose jab but Lomachenko uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lomachenko bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lomachenko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Date, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Date avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Lomachenko.
The ground and pound from Lomachenko seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Lomachenko creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Date takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Lomachenko has an Americana. Date didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Lomachenko is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Lomachenko hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
