PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Rolla (ranked 796 p4p, 109 weight class) and James Steel (ranked 978 p4p, 133 weight class). Rolla comes to the cage accompanied by Hit 'Em Up. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rolla throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Steel sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rolla lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Steel circles away quickly and effectively.
Steel has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Rolla is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Steel throws a series of punches but Rolla avoids them all with ease.

Steel has managed to clinch.
Steel tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Rolla breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rolla lands an overhand right.


It looks like James Steel has been cut.

Steel has closed the distance and engaged Rolla in a clinch.

Our sources have told us that Rolla has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Rolla creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Steel tries to work over Rolla's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Rolla comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Rolla dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch but Rolla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Steel keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Steel is working for takedown but Rolla is calmly controlling the position for now.

Rolla tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Steel avoids it.

Rolla takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

A nice inside leg kick there by Steel. That's going to slow Rolla down.
Steel swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Rolla.
Steel misses the shot to the body.

Rolla darts in and clinches Steel up against the cage.

Steel takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rolla bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Steel's head.

Steel moves into the clinch.

Rolla escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rolla moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Steel with a poor takedown
and Rolla counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A big right from Steel misses.

Rolla lands with a straight right. Steel didn't see that one coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steel fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Rolla looks to throw the jab but Steel is out of range.
Steel closes the distance looking to clinch
and Rolla counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Rolla blocks a jab.
Rolla goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Steel slips a jab and a cross from Rolla.
Steel lands an overhand right.
Rolla scores with a punch to the head.
Rolla fails in his attempt to clinch.
Steel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rolla defends well and Steel ends up having to push Rolla into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Rolla is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Steel can do to turn this around?

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rolla throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Steel on the side of the head.

Rolla feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Steels jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

It looked like Rolla was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Steel.
Steel tries to clinch up but Rolla circles away and keeps his distance.

and Rolla counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rolla paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rolla swats away the attempt to clinch by Steel.
Steel wants to clinch.

Rolla's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rolla shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Steel eats them both and turns towards Rolla to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Rolla steps into range and cracks Steel with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Steel flops backwards and Rolla dives into his guard looking to finish!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rolla postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Rolla throws a big elbow that misses.

Rolla is sitting in close to Steel's body. Steel has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Rolla is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Rolla is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Steel.
