Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zane Mason (ranked 590 p4p, 80 weight class) and Optimus Prime (ranked 904 p4p, 123 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prime listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Prime feints and as Mason raises his hands in defense, Prime changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Prime throwing strikes from guard but Mason blocks nicely.
Prime landing with the ground and pound.
Prime trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom.
Prime has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mason is pulling down on Prime's head to control his posture.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Prime working his ground and pound in the gym.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prime lands a couple of elbows.
Mason pulls Prime in close to prevent any damage.
Mason has momentary wrist control but Prime slips an elbow through the middle.

Prime postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Prime stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mason swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Prime accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Prime tries to bum rush Mason with a series of wild strikes but Mason uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Prime throws a head kick that misses.
Prime misses with a series of wild punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Prime throws a chopping leg kick but Mason manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Prime fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Prime swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Prime throws a leg kick that is checked
and Mason counters with a stiff right hand.
Mason blocks a head kick by Prime.
Prime sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Prime on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mason. Mason obviously looking to wear him down.
Prime throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mason.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mason connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Prime doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Optimus Prime seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Prime throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Prime fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Zane Mason is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Prime looks winded!
Prime looks to land a right hand but Mason moved out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Optimus Prime dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Prime walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A jab lands there for Mason.
Mason looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Prime tries for a takedown but Mason sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Mason throws a hook but Prime blocks it.

Prime has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mason to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Prime is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mason pulls down on the head and he's put Prime to sleep! This one is all over!
