These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pato was well out of range. Poor timing from Newton.
Newton keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pato.
Newton feints the counter takedown.
Pato throws a lazy right hand but Newton sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Pato fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Newton manages to avoid it.
Newton is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Pato swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Newton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Pato knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Newton on the ground.

Newton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pato does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
