PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lakoj Dresden (ranked 1436 p4p, 209 weight class) and Jodi Joe Fjera (ranked 1612 p4p, 234 weight class). Fjera has chosen Tito & Tarantula as his entrance music. Lakoj Dresden has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lakoj Dresden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jodi Joe Fjera!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Joseph Jones and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dresden has a takedown stuffed.
Dresden has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Fjera goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Dresden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fjera was covering up waiting for the punch and Dresden finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Fjera is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dresden defends well.
Fjera manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dresden manages to get himself to full guard.

Fjera trying to control the position from guard on top but Dresden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fjera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dresden swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dresden holds on and takes a little breather.

Dresden is trying to hold Fjera in close to prevent damage but Fjera has managed to pass into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Dresden is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fjera's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fjera's back!

Dresden is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Fjera has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Fjera breaks Dresden's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Dresden wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Fjera pushes down on Dresden's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Dresden moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Fjera decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dresden, up you get!
Dresden fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And Fjera responds with a good body kick, but Dresden manages to step out the way in time.
Jodi Joe Fjera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dresden shoots in and gets a takedown into Fjera's guard.

Fjera pushes Dresden off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dresden tries to clinch but Fjera is having none of it.
Dresden takes one to the side of the head.
Dresden takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fjera.

and Fjera counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lakoj Dresden. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dresden uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fjera.

Dresden closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fjera quickly recovers to half guard.

Fjera has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Dresden is on him like a limpet, forcing Fjera back against the cage.
Fjera wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Dresden's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Fjera throws a big shot that misses.
Dresden shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Fjera misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fjera has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Dresden is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Dresden leaves Fjera with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dresden fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fjera avoids it really well and circles away.
Dresden shoots in looking for a takedown. Fjera tries to sprawl out of it but Dresden keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fjera manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A countering left hand to the body from Fjera misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dresden wants to get up but he can't break Fjera's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Dresden seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jodi Joe Fjera has got the better of the ground game so far.

Fjera is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dresden is fighting to break Fjera's control of his arms but Fjera is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Dresden is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dresden won't allow Fjera to sweep him here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fjera lands a jab.
Fjera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dresden manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jodi Joe Fjera seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Fjera throws a push kick but Dresden slaps the foot to one side.
Dresden walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Lakoj Dresden is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Fjera pushes Dresden off and gets back to his feet.
Dresden closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fjera circles away.
Fjera unleashes a big counter combination but Dresden bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Fjera looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

And Fjera responds with a good body kick, but Dresden manages to step out the way in time.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Fjera had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dresden defends it easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fjera is on top in guard.

Lakoj Dresden has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fjera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dresden sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fjera's guard.

Fjera has hold of Dresden's hands but Dresden slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Fjera is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Fjera is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dresden scores with a couple of nice shots.
Fjera is looking for a sweep. Dresden is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fjera is staying active underneath Dresden, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fjera trying to get back to full guard but Dresden takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Dresden prevents Fjera from getting the reversal.
Jodi Joe Fjera is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Fjera tries to hold on but Dresden pushes him away.

Lakoj Dresden showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fjera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
