PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gary Tonon (ranked 67 p4p, 11 weight class) and Koh Ibu (ranked 203 p4p, 30 weight class). Tonon comes into the arena with What About Now blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gary Tonon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Koh Ibu!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tonon moves in looking to clinch but Ibu pushes him off.
Tonon fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ibu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ibu looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ibu bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Gary Tonon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tonon has a takedown stuffed.
A little jabbing left from Ibu on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ibu slaps away a takedown attempt from Tonon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ibu looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Tonon.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ibu manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ibu tries to kick Tonon off but Tonon keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Tonon is looking to pass Ibu's guard but actually Ibu recovers to full guard.
Ibu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Tonon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ibu seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Ibu has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Ibu wriggles free and stands up.
Sloppy strikes from Ibu. Those never looked like landing.
Ibu thows a body kick. Tonon tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Tonon uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ibu.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tonon is defended easily by Ibu.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Ibu pushes Tonon off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Gary Tonon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice straight punches there by Ibu. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Ibu.

Tonon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ibu is trying to defend but Tonon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Tonon shoots for a takedown but Ibu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tonon is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Tonon dives in and grabs Ibu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ibu pushes down on Tonon's head and hops out.

Ibu throws a nice inside leg kick.
Ibu connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ibu leaves Tonon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ibu lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Ibu catches Tonon with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ibu lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Tonon head around and knocks him out cold! Ibu hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Koh Ibu!
A very excited looking Koh Ibu rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
