PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shark Attack (ranked 1689 p4p, 220 weight class) and John Locke (ranked 1512 p4p, 199 weight class). Locke has chosen What Makes a Good Man as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. John Locke will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Locke!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Attack moves into the clinch.
Locke stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Attack.
Attack definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Attack drags the fight down to the ground.
Attack wants to stand up but Locke is controlling him.
Attack is wriggling around but Locke manages to pass to half guard.
Locke perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Attack tries to kick Locke off but Locke keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Attack throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Locke swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Attack counters with an inside leg kick.
Locke lands a jab to Attack's midsection.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A head punch on the inside from Attack fails to land.
Locke lands a body punch.
Attack fails to pull guard.
Attack misses with a body punch.
Locke is struggling to control the position.
Attack can't find room to land a body shot as Locke controls the action.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Attack creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Locke.

It looks like Shark Attack has been cut.
Locke tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Attack jumps guard.
Attack wants to stand and escape but Locke is having none of it.
Attack wants to get back to his feet but Locke passes into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Attack looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Attack fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Locke, pushing him back against the cage.
Attack fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Attack scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Locke's coach down at Bobby's Bench Shop was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Locke's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Locke is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Attack is keeping busy.
A short body shot lands from Attack as the two fighters clinch.
Attack tries to work over Locke's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Locke gets underhooks to prevent Attack's takedown attempt.

Attack tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Locke's elbow.

Attack gets control of Locke's arms and successfully pulls guard. Attack will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Attack is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Locke is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Attack wants to get back to his feet but Locke is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Attack closes the distance and clinches.
Locke avoids a wild elbow strike from Attack.
Attack lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Locke digs a right hand underneath Attack's ribcage. Attack let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Attack swings wildly with an uppercut but Locke uses good head movement to avoid it.
Attack is trying to pull guard but Locke turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Attack misses with some punches.
Attack is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Locke can do to turn this around?

Attack jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Locke walks away with a smile on his face. Attack gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Attack shoots in for a double leg but Locke sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shark Attack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Attack takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Locke lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Attack is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Locke to keep the fight standing.

Attack is rocked!

Oh Attack is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Locke will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Attack up against the cage.
