The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mostert pushes Aoki up against the cage in a clinch.
Aoki wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Aoki.
Mostert throws a head punch that misses.
Mostert tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Aoki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mostert misses with an uppercut. Aoki saw that one coming.
Aoki checks a leg kick.
Aoki is looking for the big counter here.
Aoki throws a jab but it's blocked by Mostert.

Mostert gets a clinch.
Aoki wants to get back to striking at distance but Mostert won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aoki blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Aoki gets underhooks to prevent Mostert's takedown attempt.

I was talking to Mostert's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Mostert drops down looking for an ankle pick but Aoki pulls his leg out and moves away.

so Mostert counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Aoki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Aoki is pulling down on Mostert's head. It's preventing any offense from Mostert, at least for the moment.
Mostert postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Aoki controls Mostert momentarily but Mostert frees himself.
Mostert won't allow Aoki to get back to his feet.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mostert's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Aoki told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Aoki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mostert can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mostert is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Mostert drops back, looking for a kneebar! Aoki looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Aoki looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Aoki!

Aoki tries to move to mount but Mostert blocks the move with his legs.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mostert tries to bench press Aoki off him but Aoki keeps the position.
Aoki wants to control but Mostert is keeping him busy.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mostert is not content to let Aoki control the position.

Mostert has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Aoki wants to control from the top but Mostert keeps moving.

Aoki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Aoki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mostert bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Aoki's guard.

Mostert wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Aoki, who protects the arm well.

Aoki lands a left and a right that send Mostert crashing to the mat, dazed. Aoki thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Pieter Daan Mostert has been cut.
Aoki catches Mostert with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Mostert forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!
