PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rudi Dassler (ranked 257 p4p, 38 weight class) and Ed Ruth (ranked 289 p4p, 44 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Rudi Dassler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ed Ruth!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dassler blocks a jab.
Dassler drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ruth sprawls and moves away.
Dassler fails with a takedown attempt.
As Dassler backs off Ruth throws a huge counter combo but Dassler manages to avoid it all.
Dassler goes for a double leg but Ruth avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ruth continues to drive forward.
Ruth throws out a counter right but Dassler avoids it with no problem.
Ruth stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ruth wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rudi Dassler. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A swing and a miss from Ruth.
Ruth fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dassler manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruth fails to land with a series of punches.
Dassler shoots in looking for a takedown. Ruth tries to sprawl out of it but Dassler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ruth manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dassler shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruth manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dassler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ruth lands a nice short elbow.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dassler is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ruth pulls his head out easily.

Ruth might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dassler haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Ruth lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ruth scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Dassler actively working from the bottom here.
Dassler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ruth not doing much here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ruth seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ruth working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Dassler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ruth's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ruth's back!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ruth is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Dassler gets his way!
Ruth is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Dassler off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
You can see the frustration on Ruth's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Ruth manages to reverse the position and now he's in Dassler's guard. Nice work there by Ruth.

Dassler is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ruth defends well.

Dassler is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ruth lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Dassler will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dassler has momentary wrist control but Ruth slips an elbow through the middle.
Ruth keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Dassler's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dassler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ruth defends it easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ruth is working Dassler over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.


Dassler is rocked!
Dassler seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Dassler looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ed Ruth dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ruth swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Dassler shoots in but no luck this time.
A little jabbing left from Ruth on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ruth drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Dassler right on the button. Dassler goes down! Ruth follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Ruth gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ed Ruth!
