The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khadartsev shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Khadartsev was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Khadartsev looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

You can see the frustration on Khadartsev's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khadartsev keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Khadartsev saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Smith displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khadartsev throws out the jab.
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Khadartsev bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Khadartsev stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Khadartsev wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Khadartsev looks to throw the jab but Smith is out of range.
Khadartsev might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Khadartsev connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple.

Khadartsev looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith is rocked!
Smith has hold of Khadartsev's hands but Khadartsev slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Oh Smith is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Khadartsev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith is not content to let Khadartsev control the position.
