PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ross Devereux (ranked 378 p4p, 52 weight class) and Luke Rockstar (ranked 817 p4p, 114 weight class). Rockstar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. You're The Best Around kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ross Devereux!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Rockstar!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rockstar catches Devereux with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Rockstar misses with a straight left.
Rockstar throws a shot to the body.
Devereux slips a straight right by Rockstar.
Devereux half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Rockstar has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Rockstar lands a head kick!
Rockstar pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A lazy body kick from Rockstar

and Devereux counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rockstar tries to roll over but Devereux keeps him under control.
Rockstar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rockstar is trying to control but can't.

Devereux decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Rockstar is looking to score with low kicks.
Devereux changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Rockstar misses with a body shot.
Devereux attempts a counter takedown but Rockstar avoids it well and moves away.
Devereux moves out of range as Rockstar strikes.
Devereux drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rockstar sprawls and moves away.
Rockstar misses with a low kick.
Devereux on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rockstar. Rockstar obviously looking to wear him down.
Rockstar lands with a thumping leg kick.
Devereux defending well as Rockstar loads up on a big left hand.
Rockstar attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Good leg kick by Rockstar there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Rockstar pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Devereux appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Devereux moves out of range of the body kick.
Devereux takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Devereux keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rockstar.
Devereux tries to counter with a takedown but Rockstar is quick to defend against it.
Devereux moves out of range of the body kick from Rockstar.
Rockstar jabs Devereux to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Rockstar fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Rockstar throws a hook to the side of Devereux's head but Devereux sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Devereux counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Rockstar!
Rockstar is looking to reverse the position.

Rockstar wants to control but Devereux postures up.
Rockstar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Devereux wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Rockstar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rockstar is looking to regain half guard here but Devereux keeps moving and retains side control.
Rockstar is trying to control Devereux's posture but Devereux avoids it.

Devereux stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Rockstar jabbing away but nothing is landing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Devereux keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rockstar throws a lazy uppercut

and Devereux counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rockstar is looking for a triangle but Devereux pushes his legs off easily.
Rockstar trying to control the position.
Rockstar wants to sweep here but Devereux controlling him for the moment.
Rockstar trying to keep a closed guard but Devereux is proving a slippery customer.
Rockstar seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Luke Rockstar will probably get the nod.

Rockstar throws a sloppy head kick and Devereux moves out of range easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rockstar is looking for a sweep.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rockstar can't do much from the bottom here.

Devereux stands up.
Rockstar looks to score with a jab to the body but Devereux is just out of range.
Devereux tries to counter with a takedown but Rockstar is quick to defend against it.
Devereux looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rockstar throws a leg kick

and Devereux counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Rockstar managing to control the position.

Rockstar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rockstar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Devereux defends well.

Devereux stands up from Rockstar's guard - Devereux perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rockstar lunges at Devereux with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Devereux's hand.
Rockstar lands an overhand right.
Rockstar pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Devereux tries to counter with a takedown but Rockstar is quick to defend against it.
Rockstar goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Devereux changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Rockstar lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rockstar pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Rockstar feints and then cracks Devereux's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Devereux down.
A left lands for Rockstar.
Devereux blocks a low kick nicely.
Devereux drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rockstar sprawls and moves away.
Rockstar lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

and Devereux decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rockstar's guard.

Devereux stands and steps away. Rockstar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Devereux blocks a jab.
Rockstar looks to land a left hand but Devereux moved out of range nicely.
Luke Rockstar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Devereux counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rockstar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rockstar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rockstar is trying to keep Devereux in close.
Devereux won't allow Rockstar to sweep him here.

Rockstar isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Devereux stacks Rockstar on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Devereux!
Ross Devereux overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rockstar is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Devereux dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A low kick from Rockstar is predictable there

and Devereux counters with a single leg into guard. Rockstar didn't expect that.
Rockstar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rockstar is adopting a defensive guard.

Rockstar has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Devereux is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rockstar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Devereux decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rockstar to his feet.
Rockstar takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

A lazy body kick from Rockstar

and Devereux counters with a shoot takedown. Rockstar fights it but they end up in guard.
Rockstar is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Devereux gets to his feet - Rockstar follows without any prompting.
Rockstar misses with an uppercut. Devereux saw that one coming.
Rockstar throws a half hearted mid kick.
Devereux half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Rockstar throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Devereux sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rockstar jabs Devereux to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Rockstar throws a leg kick that is checked

and Devereux decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rockstar's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rockstar is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Devereux is aware though and is defending well.

Rockstar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Devereux gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rockstar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Devereux decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Rockstar throws a body shot but no joy.
Devereux attempts a counter takedown but Rockstar avoids it well and moves away.
Luke Rockstar seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Rockstar tries to roll over but Devereux keeps him under control.

Devereux decides to stand and escape the position.
Devereux uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rockstar.
Devereux attempts a counter takedown but Rockstar avoids it well and moves away.
Rockstar throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Ross Devereux showed his dominance in that final round.

A very excited looking Ross Devereux rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
