EMP Monday Madness PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Shunsui Kyoraku (ranked 3001 p4p, 339 weight class) and Steve Lucas (ranked 2739 p4p, 315 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 2 losses; Shunsui Kyoraku! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 1 losses; Steve Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Donald Grub.


Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious?
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Lucas shoots in but Kyoraku avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kyoraku appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shunsui Kyoraku has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Lucas.

Kyoraku stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kyoraku wants it to stay on the feet.

Lucas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kyoraku as he jumps to the side.
Kyoraku appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Kyoraku half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

No luck for Lucas with that takedown attempt.

Horrible takedown attempt by Lucas or perhaps it was just good defense by Kyoraku, which made it look bad.

Lucas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kyoraku sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lucas somewhat.
Kyoraku changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kyoraku but Kyoraku pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Lucas's coach down at Blackscar Fitness was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Lucas's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Lucas shoots in but Kyoraku avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kyoraku but Kyoraku pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kyoraku changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Lucas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kyoraku sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lucas somewhat.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Lucas.
Kyoraku feinted with a counter takedown.

Lucas shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Kyoraku holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Lucas is trying to work for a kimura but Kyoraku is defending well.

Lucas is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Kyoraku still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Kyoraku has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Kyoraku happy to just control the position for now.

Lucas is looking to regain half guard here but Kyoraku keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lucas can't do much from the bottom here.
Kyoraku in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Lucas is being controlled here.
Kyoraku has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Lucas tries to buck Kyoraku off but Kyoraku is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kyoraku controls the position from side control.
Lucas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kyoraku wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lucas is letting Kyoraku control him for a moment.
Kyoraku continues to stall.

More hug and hope from Kyoraku.
Lucas can't do much from the bottom here.
Lucas is looking for a sweep.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lucas wants to control but Kyoraku postures up.
Kyoraku controls the position.

Kyoraku takes the fight on points by 4 to 2.
