PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luc Gagnon (ranked 1028 p4p, 140 weight class) and Khalabib Nurmy (ranked 382 p4p, 53 weight class). Gagnon comes to the cage accompanied by Annihilator - King of the Kill. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gagnon clinches up against the cage.
Gagnon lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Nurmy misses with a hook from the clinch.
Nurmy's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Nurmy tries to work over Gagnon's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

A head punch on the inside from Nurmy fails to land.

Nurmy has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gagnon clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Nurmy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nurmy slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Nurmy has his foot on Gagnon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gagnon works his way back into a safe position though.

Gagnon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gagnon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Nurmy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gagnon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gagnon throws a big elbow that misses.

Nurmy is looking for a triangle but Gagnon pushes his legs off easily.
Gagnon trying to control the position from guard on top but Nurmy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Nurmy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gagnon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well, if Gagnon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gagnon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nurmy keeps working.

Gagnon moves into full mount! Nurmy won't be happy about that!

Gagnon tries to get the hooks in deep but Nurmy pushed the leg off.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nurmy takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Nurmy darts in looking for a takedown but Gagnon gets double underhooks and turns Nurmy into the cage.
Nurmy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gagnon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gagnon was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Gagnon scores with a decent looking hook.
Nurmy misses with a straight left.
Khalabib Nurmy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nurmy is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Gagnon blocks a jab.
Gagnon tries to counter by clinching up but Nurmy breaks away and moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nurmy takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Gagnon lands a big right hand that sends Nurmy crashing to the mat! Gagnon stays standing though and waves Nurmy back to his feet!

Nurmy shoots in but no luck this time.
Nurmy has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Nurmy shoots in for a takedown but Gagnon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Luc Gagnon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Khalabib Nurmy.
Nurmy is breathing heavily.

Gagnon sends Nurmy crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Gagnon is motioning to the referee to let Nurmy up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Gagnon closes the distance and lands a brutal uppercut that knocks Nurmy out! We're looking at the replay now - he was out before he hit the floor!
