PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dakota Martin (ranked 1971 p4p, 254 weight class) and Sergio Garcia (ranked 2293 p4p, 278 weight class). Garcia has chosen Ludacris - Beast Mode as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dakota Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sergio Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Garcia misses with a double jab.
Martin scores with a jab.
Martin connects with a right hand. Garcia shakes it off.
Garcia takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Garcia has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Garcia fails with a takedown attempt.
Martin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Garcia bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Martin trying to remain calm as Garcia controls from the top position.
Garcia working the ground and pound but Martin is defending the strikes.
Martin is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at K.O. Koala's that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Garcia is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Martin will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Garcia takes a little break here. Martin wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Garcia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martin keeps working.
Garcia is pressing down on Martin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Martin is holding on for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Garcia slows the pace down in half guard.
Martin is controlling Garcia's trapped leg to prevent Garcia from advancing to side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Martin wants to control but Garcia is keeping busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Garcia shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Garcia perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

It looks like Garcia might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Garcia is looking for a kimura here.
Martin trying to control from the bottom.
Garcia content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Garcia prevents Martin from improving his position.
Garcia drops an elbow to the side of Martin's head.
Garcia is controlling the pace.

Garcia decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Martin throws a body shot but no joy.

Garcia closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Garcia lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sergio Garcia will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Garcia uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Martin.
Garcia unleashes a big counter combination but Martin bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Garcia ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Garcia moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Garcia takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Good leg kick by Garcia there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Dakota Martin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A nice leg kick lands there from Garcia.

Garcia shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Garcia was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Martin tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Martin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Martin is looking to reverse the position.

Martin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Garcia is controlling him well.
Martin is not content to let Garcia control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garcia remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Martin tries to bench press Garcia off him but Garcia keeps the position.
Sergio Garcia has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee asks Garcia politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Garcia prefers to stall for the moment though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martin is trying to improve his position.
Martin is not content to let Garcia control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Martin misses with an uppercut
and Garcia counters with a body kick.
Garcia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Martin on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Some wild striking there from Martin.
Martin takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Martin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Garcia scores with a kick to the body.
Garcia lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Martin backs up against the cage.

Garcia cracks Martin with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Garcia thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Martin if he has to take too many more of those.
A jab from Martin misses.
Garcia looks for a takedown but Martin sprawls well.
Garcia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martin swivels and escapes.
Garcia lands a nice looking body shot.
A combination from Garcia does no damage.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Martin throws a body punch but Garcia moves out of range.

and Garcia counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Garcia tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Martin was well out of range. Poor timing from Garcia.
Garcia lands a jab to the nose.
Martin throws a leg kick that is checked
and Garcia cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Martin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Garcia cracks the inside of Martin's front leg.
Martin throws a right hand that misses
and Garcia counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Garcia has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Martin misses with a hook

and Garcia counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Sergio Garcia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Garcia is putting a hurting on Martin here, landing some big shots from side control.
Garcia throws a strike aimed at the side of Martin's head but Martin avoids it well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Garcia wants to control but Martin is keeping him busy.

Dakota Martin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Garcia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The referee asks Garcia politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Garcia prefers to stall for the moment though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Garcia in side control, just content to control the action for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Garcia closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Martin sneaks out the side door and pushes Garcia away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Martin is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Martin takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A jab from Martin misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sergio Garcia comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Garcia has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
