The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akmetzhanev fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kortez manages to avoid it.
Akmetzhanev throws a lazy right hand but Kortez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kortez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Akmetzhanev!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kortez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Akmetzhanev, who protects the arm well.
Kortez has knee on belly momentarily but Akmetzhanev bucks him off and regains half guard.
Kortez is looking to stall here but Akmetzhanev recovers full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kortez looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Akmetzhanev is defending well. Kortez quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Akmetzhanev has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kortez celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
