Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eric Van Der Woodsen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Caniel Dormier!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Van Der Woodsen definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Dormier takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

and Van Der Woodsen counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Dormier controls Van Der Woodsen momentarily but Van Der Woodsen frees himself.
Dormier is looking to stand up but Van Der Woodsen isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dormier preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Our spies down at at Combat Center inform us that Dormier has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Van Der Woodsen wants to pass the guard but Dormier is keeping the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Van Der Woodsen's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Dormier is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Van Der Woodsen is aware though and is defending well.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Van Der Woodsen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Van Der Woodsen drops back looking for a leg! Dormier is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dormier manages to kick Van Der Woodsen off! Van Der Woodsen jumps back into Dormier's guard.

Van Der Woodsen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dormier is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Van Der Woodsen, into his guard.


Dormier drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dormier jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dormier trying to control the position from guard on top but Van Der Woodsen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Van Der Woodsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dormier tries to stand but Van Der Woodsen is controlling from the bottom.

Van Der Woodsen looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Dormier is defending well. Van Der Woodsen quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Dormier has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Van Der Woodsen celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Eric Van Der Woodsen!
Eric Van Der Woodsen is the new lightweight champion!
A relieved looking Eric Van Der Woodsen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
