PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David C. Marvin (ranked 967 p4p, 132 weight class) and Shintaro Nomo (ranked 1014 p4p, 140 weight class). Marvin comes into the arena with Superman Theme blaring out of the sound system. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, David C. Marvin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Shintaro Nomo!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marvin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Nomo.
Nomo avoids the head kick by Marvin.
A little jabbing left from Nomo on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Nomo looks to land a right hand but Marvin moved out of range.
It appears Marvin was looking to counter with a kick there.
Nomo's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Nomo duly obliges.
Marvin throws the kick towards the body but Nomo avoids it.
Nomo takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Nomo throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Marvin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Marvin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Marvin tries to move into full mount but can't pass Nomo's legs.
Nomo parries the strikes from Marvin easily there. Marvin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Nomo to escape.
You can see the frustration on Nomo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Nomo tries to improve position but can't.
Nomo is trying to control Marvin's posture but Marvin avoids it.
Marvin tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Marvin lands a decent elbow from side control.

Marvin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Marvin is looking to take a break and control but Nomo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nomo can't escape the position.
Marvin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Nomo is looking to escape.

Nomo is squirming around, avoiding Marvin's attempts to control the action.

Nomo is desperately trying to improve his position but Marvin has a good base and remains in mount.

David C. Marvin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Marvin moves into the clinch successfully.
Nomo lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Nomo misses with a body punch.
Marvin definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Marvin blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Nomo looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Nomo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Marvin keeping moving, preventing Nomo from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
We've been informed that Nomo has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Marvin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marvin has control of Nomo's left arm, preventing Nomo from doing any damage.
Nomo wants to pass the guard but Marvin is keeping the position.

Marvin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Nomo scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Nomo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Nomo scores with a sloppy right hand. Marvin should have avoided that one.

Marvin instigates a clinch.
Nomo misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Marvin.
Nomo throws a punch but it's blocked by Marvin.
Nomo tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Marvin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Nomo just stands there and leans against the cage.
Marvin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Nomo's efforts to push away.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Nomo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Marvin tries for a takedown but Nomo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nomo scores with a jab to the jaw.
Shintaro Nomo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Nomo, as that shot connected.
Nomo connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Marvin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nomo.
Marvin throws a quick counter kick to the body but Nomo avoids it.
Marvin takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Nomo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Marvin counters with a low kick, right behind Nomo 's knee.

Marvin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nomo, pushing him back against the cage.
Marvin tries a body shot but Nomo blocks it.
Nomo lands an uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marvin tries to throw a body punch but Nomo avoids it by throwing Marvin back against the cage.
Nomo tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nomo lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Nomo throws an elbow but it misses.
Nomo swings wildly with an uppercut but Marvin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marvin prevents a body shot from Nomo.

Nomo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Marvin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nomo throws a lazy right hand but Marvin sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Nomo misses the jab.
Nomo connects with a jab.
Nomo looks to land a combination. Marvin sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shintaro Nomo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Marvin misses with a kick to the body.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nomo! But no joy.
Nomo throws a shot from downtown. Marvin moves away and avoids it.
Nomo connects with a good right hand that stumbles Marvin. Marvin circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Marvin tries a head kick but it misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marvin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nomo thows a left - swing and a miss!

Marvin closes the distance and clinches.
Nomo lands a nice uppercut.
Marvin prevents a body shot from Nomo.
Marvin on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Marvin jumps guard but Nomo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Marvin stalls.
Nomo wants to break the clinch but can't.

Nomo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Marvin wants to pass the guard but Nomo is keeping the position.
Nomo wants to sweep but no luck.
Marvin wants to control from the top but Nomo keeps moving.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Marvin forces his way into half guard.
Marvin not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Marvin wants to work for an arm triangle but Nomo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Nomo wants to control but Marvin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Nomo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Marvin haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Marvin is pressing down on Nomo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nomo is holding on for now.
David C. Marvin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Nomo has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Marvin escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Marvin!
The referee asks Marvin politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Marvin prefers to stall for the moment though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nomo is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Nomo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Marvin off and has taken his back!

Shintaro Nomo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nomo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Shintaro Nomo opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
