PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Sigfridsson (ranked 860 p4p, 111 weight class) and Chris Fda (ranked 3186 p4p, 366 weight class). Fda has chosen Hate Me Now as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benjamin Sigfridsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Fda!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fda buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Sigfridsson lands a jab to the head.
Fda blocks the body kick.
Sigfridsson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Fda's head backwards.
Fda has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Sigfridsson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Fda.
Sigfridsson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Sigfridsson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Fda. Fda obviously looking to wear him down.
Fda shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sigfridsson throws a chopping leg kick but Fda manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Fda wants to counter with a clinch but Sigfridsson pushes him away.
A jab lands there for Fda.
Sigfridsson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Fda finds it's way round the side to connect with Sigfridsson's head.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Sigfridsson.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fda tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sigfridsson was well out of range. Poor timing from Fda.
Sigfridsson lands a jab to the nose.
Sigfridsson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Fda throws a shot from downtown. Sigfridsson moves away and avoids it.
Fda cracks a nice hook into Sigfridsson's ribs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fda will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fda tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sigfridsson was well out of range. Poor timing from Fda.
Fda lands a nice looking body shot.
Sigfridsson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Sigfridsson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Sigfridsson misses the shot to the body.
Fda misses with a takedown attempt - Sigfridsson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sigfridsson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fda.
Sigfridsson lands a jab to the nose.
Fda finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Fda looks to score with a jab to the body but Sigfridsson is just out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sigfridsson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fda missing with a left hand there. Sigfridsson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sigfridsson leaves Fda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Benjamin Sigfridsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Fda.

Fda closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Sigfridsson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Fda keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sigfridsson has a couple of punches blocked by Fda.

Fda's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Sigfridsson, as that shot connected.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fda lands a nice shot that snaps Sigfridsson's head back.
Fda uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sigfridsson.
Benjamin Sigfridsson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sigfridsson throws a good cross that connects.
Fda keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Fda closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sigfridsson to the mat! Sigfridsson manages to get full guard.
Fda sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sigfridsson's guard.

Fda is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Sigfridsson is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Chris Fda!
A very excited looking Chris Fda rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
