The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kane lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Nice uppercut there from Newell.
Kane tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Newell was well out of range. Poor timing from Kane.
A looping hook to the body misses from Newell. Kane does a little dance to reset his feet.
Newell works Kane's body with a nice hook.
Newell misses with a hook. Kane ducked under it nicely.
Kane appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Newell looks for a takedown but Kane sprawls well.
Kane appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Kane ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Newell moves away.
A jab from Newell misses.
Kane misses with a low kick.
Kane avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kane misses with a jab, cross combination.
Newell throws a body shot but no joy.
Newell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kane stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kane throws a looping overhand right but Newell ducks down to avoid it.
Kane pulls out of a head kick attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kane avoids the body shot from Newell.

Kane tries to sprawl but Newell drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Newell trying to pass the guard but Kane defending well.

Newell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kane defends it well.
Newell works his foot free and advances to mount.

Newell looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Newell controlling from mount.
Newell fails to advance to Kane's back.
Newell trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Newell wants to control the action but instead Kane gets a body lock and reverses into Newell's guard! Nice work!
Newell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Newell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kane is one step ahead there.

Kane decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Newell, up you get!
Newell throws a looping overhand right but Kane ducks down to avoid it.
Kane throws out a counter right but Newell avoids it with no problem.
Newell just misses with a punch to the body.

Newell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Newell has hold of Kane's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Kane tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Newell cranks the arm and Kane screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Kane, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
