PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lamar Jackson (ranked 8380 p4p, 626 weight class) and Ndulu Mpembe (ranked 4994 p4p, 496 weight class). Jackson comes to the cage accompanied by Many Men. Ndulu Mpembe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ndulu Mpembe!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mpembe clobbers Jackson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jackson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Mpembe counter with a right hand.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Jackson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Mpembe has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Mpembe and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Mpembe connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jackson . Jackson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
A jab from Mpembe finds it's way through Jackson 's defenses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mpembe working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Mpembe drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jackson dives on top into guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mpembe can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mpembe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jackson has hold of Mpembe's hands but Mpembe slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mpembe wants to control but Jackson is keeping him busy.
Mpembe takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Mpembe closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mpembe lands in his opponent's guard.
Jackson seems to have got his legs back now.
Mpembe works over Jackson with some ground and pound from guard.

Jackson is looking for a triangle but Mpembe pushes his legs off easily.
Mpembe throws a strike but Jackson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mpembe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jackson 's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mpembe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Mpembe in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Jackson looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Mpembe turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
