PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cornelius Carr (ranked 133 p4p, 19 weight class) and Hyryx Dall (ranked 361 p4p, 56 weight class). Carr comes to the cage accompanied by Bang Bang. Dall has chosen Rattlesnake as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cornelius Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Hyryx Dall!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carr scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Dall doesn't seem bothered though.
Carr slips a straight right by Dall.
Carr cracks Dall with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Carr pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Carr with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Dall goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Cornelius Carr has been cut.
Dall fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Carr has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Carr takes one to the side of the head.
A shot to the liver by Carr. Beautiful body shot.
Dall walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


It looks like Hyryx Dall has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dall moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Dall uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carr.
Carr lands a jab to the head.
Dall ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Carr throws an off balance right hand
and Dall counters with a stiff right hand.

Dall throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
We've been told by Carr's head coaches at Wild Card that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Dall misses with a left hand
and Carr counters with a nice leg kick.
Dall avoids the head kick by Carr.
Carr throws a big shot that misses.
Carr stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Dall.
Carr scores with a sloppy right hand. Dall should have avoided that one.
Dall lands a nice shot to the body.
Carr looks to land a left hand but Dall moved out of range nicely.
Dall takes a swing at Carr's ribcage but misses.
Cornelius Carr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Carr throws an off balance right hand
and Dall counters with a lovely shot to the body.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Dall.
Dall goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A big right from Carr misses.

Carr rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Dall cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dall moves away.
And Dall tries to counter it with a takedown but Carr pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Carr throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
letting Dall counter with a right hand.
Nice defenses there by Carr.
Carr misses with a straight left.
Carr stuns Dall with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A low kick from Carr misses

and Dall counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Dall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carr is just riding it out for now. Dall eventually gives up the hold.

Dall is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carr defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Carr keeping full guard, as Dall tries to pass.
Dall stands and throws Carr's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dall is looking to take a break and control but Carr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dall is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carr has escaped the position, nice work there.

Dall thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Dall is trying to get an arm triangle but Carr is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hyryx Dall will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carr steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dall.
Carr loads up on a big right hand but Dall slips the punch.
Dall misses the shot to the body.
Carr cracks Dall with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Dall has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Dall there as he acknowledges the shot.
Dall will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Carr is looking to score with low kicks.
Carr misses with a jab to the body
and Dall counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Carr throws out a powerful jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dall misses with a body punch
and Carr counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Dall takes a jab right on the kisser.
Dall shoots in and drives through. Carr sprawls well.
Carr rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Dall to counter with a crisp jab.

Dall is looking to slow Carr down with leg kicks.
Carr moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Carr swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Carr lands a jab to Dall's midsection.
Carr throws a good cross that connects.
Carr lands a nice looking kick to the body. Dall takes a step back to recover.
Dall steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Carr.
Cornelius Carr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carr scores with a jab to the jaw.


That has opened up Hyryx Dall's cut even more.
Dall takes a shot right to the bread basket.
A low kick from Carr misses
and Dall finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Carr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dall moves away.
Dall lands with a good body shot.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carr jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Dall appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Carr blocks a jab.
Carr fires out a quick counter leg kick but Dall just manages to avoid it.
Dall bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Carr keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Carr throws a poor cross that misses
and Dall counters with a body kick that stops Carr in his tracks momentarily.
Carr buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Carr looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Carr looks to land a right hand but Dall moved out of range.
Dall ducks under a wild hook from Carr.
Carr fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Carr with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

A slow jab from Dall misses its intended target.
Carr looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Carr scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Dall doesn't seem bothered though.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Carr, as that shot connected.
Carr misses with a hook
and Dall counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Cornelius Carr is winning the standup battle so far.
Carr throws a lazy uppercut
and Dall counters with a big head kick but Carr shrugs it off.
Carr scores with a jab to the body.
Carr throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dall waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Carr.
Dall throws a body punch but Carr moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dall avoids the head kick by Carr.
It seemed like Dall was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Dall moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Carr misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Carr takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Carr lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Dall ducks under a wild hook from Carr.
Dall takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Carr takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Carr is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dall can do to turn this around?
Dall shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Carr counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Cornelius Carr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hyryx Dall.
Carr fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A punch lands to the side of Dall 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Carr fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Dall is out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dall tries a quick counter leg kick but Carr is wise to it.

Dall fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carr manages to avoid it.
Dall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dall avoids the body shot from Carr.
Dall feints the counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dall ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carr moves away.
Carr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Carr misses with a leg kick
and Dall counters with a stiff right hand.

enabling Dall to counter with a crisp jab.

Carr misses with a lunging right hand
and Dall connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Carr swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Dall counters with a single leg into guard. Carr didn't expect that.

Carr manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Dall wants the takedown. Carr is fighting it off but Dall persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Carr's guard against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dall trying to control the position from guard on top but Carr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carr is keeping the position for now.

Dall throwing strikes but missing.
Dall tries to free his leg and advance position but Carr is retaining full guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Dall wants to pass the guard but Carr is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Dall shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Dall trying to control but Carr is working from the bottom.

Dall sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Carr's guard.
Carr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dall wants to pass the guard but Carr is defending well.
Dall trying to control from Carr's half guard. Carr has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Dall trying to move into half guard but instead Carr has managed to sweep!

Dall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carr's guard.

Dall passes Carr's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Dall takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Dall is pressing down on Carr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carr is holding on for now.
Hyryx Dall has got the better of the ground game so far.

Dall looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hyryx Dall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dall has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Hyryx Dall was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
