PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cody Chalke (ranked 1802 p4p, 176 weight class) and Don Gotti (ranked 1190 p4p, 109 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Chalke might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Operation Blade. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Cody Chalke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Don Gotti!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chalke on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Gotti ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Chalke drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Gotti has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Chalke is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Gotti loads up on a big right hand but Chalke slips the punch.
Chalke appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Gotti swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Chalke looks to land a combination but Gotti avoids it well.

Gotti moves into the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Gotti.

Gotti has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chalke uses from the top position.
Gotti can't keep his opponent in guard - Chalke advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chalke seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gotti does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chalke wants to take a breather but Gotti is having none of it.

Gotti tries to get to full guard but Chalke has control of the leg.
Gotti is staying active underneath Chalke, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gotti is looking for a sweep. Chalke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Chalke is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Gotti avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Chalke.
Chalke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gotti keeps working.

Gotti looking for submissions off his back.
Chalke scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gotti tries to roll over but Chalke keeps him under control.
Gotti is not content to let Chalke control the position.
Gotti tries to get to full guard but Chalke has control of the leg.
Chalke trying to control from half guard but Gotti is working away.
Gotti moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gotti looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chalke is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chalke passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Chalke controls the position.
Gotti tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gotti is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Chalke trying to control the action but Gotti is working from the bottom.
Chalke prevents Gotti from improving his position.
Chalke wants to take a breather but Gotti is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gotti looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gotti tries to roll over but Chalke keeps him under control.
Chalke with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gotti works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gotti is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chalke is positioning himself well to prevent Gotti advancing to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Gotti dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chalke looks for the body kick but Gotti saw that one coming.

Chalke clinches with his opponent.

Gotti has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Chalke clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Gotti is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Chalke defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
We've been hearing good reports from Chalke's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well, with Gotti on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Chalke is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Gotti struggling to keep hold of the position.
Gotti has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gotti keeps control of the position as Chalke tries to break free.

Gotti has his arm under Chalke's chin here. Game over son! Gotti squeezes tightly and Chalke is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Don Gotti!
A less than humble Don Gotti misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
