The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Partner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gomes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Partner closes the distance but Gomes moves to the side

and Gomes counters with a takedown into side control.
Partner tries to bench press Gomes off him but Gomes keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gomes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gomes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

We've been hearing good reports from Gomes's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
