Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Khatir Afridi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Balbus Michael!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Afridi slips under a jab.
An attempted straight right counter from Afridi misses the target.
Michael throws a leg kick but Afridi moved away.
Afridi pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Michael is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Afridi scores with a nice strike.
Michael throws a chopping leg kick but Afridi manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Michael looks to land a combination but Afridi avoids it well.
Afridi has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Hellfire Antechamber in the buildup to the fight.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Michael, as that shot connected.
Afridi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Michael.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Michael takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Afridi throws a nice looking combination but Michael bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Afridi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Balbus Michael seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Afridi stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Michael thuds a left hand into Afridi's body.
Afridi feints and then cracks Michael's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Michael down.

Afridi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Michael looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Afridi pivots, looking for a leg kick but Michael is out of range and Afridi settles back down.

A looping hook to the body misses from Afridi. Michael does a little dance to reset his feet.

Afridi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A telegraphed right hand from Afridi misses the target.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

It looks like Khatir Afridi has been cut.
Afridi throws a low kick but it's checked well by Michael.
A solid leg kick lands there for Afridi.
Michael works over Afridi's head and body with a nice combination.
A low kick from Michael is predictable there
and Afridi counters with a good low kick that Michael was not able to check.
Afridi misses with a body punch
and Michael counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Michael tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Michael throws a nice outside leg kick.

Michael takes one to the side of the head.
Michael avoids the body shot from Afridi.

Michael fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Afridi on the side of the head.
Michael does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Michael throws a front kick aimed at Afridi's knee but Afridi avoids it well.
Afridi swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Michael checks a leg kick.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Afridi misses with a left hand
and Michael counters with a stiff right hand.
Michael looks to land a left hand but Afridi moved out of range nicely.
Afridi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Michael throws a nice inside leg kick.
Michael lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Michael has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Balbus Michael will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

It seemed like Michael was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Michael scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
A slapping body kick lands there for Afridi.
Michael misses the body punch
and Afridi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Michael tries to sprawl but Afridi drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Michael is looking to improve his position.

Afridi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Michael is staying active underneath Afridi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Afridi is looking to stall here but Michael recovers full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Michael is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Afridi off and has taken his back!

Michael doesn't have the hooks in and Afridi manages to turn into his guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Afridi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Michael has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Afridi has managed to get both his arms back between Michael's legs - danger averted.

Afridi is stalling here. Michael is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Afridi seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Michael has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Khatir Afridi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Michael can't keep his opponent in guard - Afridi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Michael is trying to maintain the position but Afridi is very close to passing his half guard.
Afridi is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Michael!

Afridi swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Michael is now in Afridi's guard. A big mistake from Afridi there, giving up the dominant position!

Michael throws an elbow that misses. Afridi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Michael's guard. Nice move by Afridi!

Michael is trying to stand back up but Afridi is controlling him

Afridi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Michael has managed to free his arm - good work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Afridi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Michael knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Michael is not content to let Afridi control the position.
Michael wants to get back to full guard.

Well Afridi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
