Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Banks (ranked 9115 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Loco (ranked 25136 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stephen Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Loco!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Loco shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Loco changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Banks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Banks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Banks is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Loco is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Banks is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Loco defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Banks lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Banks.
Banks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Loco just trying to survive but Banks is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Loco closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Banks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Loco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Banks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Banks controls Loco momentarily but Loco frees himself.
Loco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Loco won't allow Banks to sweep him here.
Banks is trying to control the position but Loco postures up.
Banks wants to sweep but no luck.
Loco seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Loco will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Loco manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Banks on his heels. He'll look to pass Banks's guard now, I'm sure.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Banks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Loco can do to turn this around?
Loco tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Banks manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Loco misses with a takedown attempt - Banks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Stephen Banks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Loco.

Loco bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Loco swings wildly with an uppercut but Banks uses good head movement to avoid it.

Loco has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Banks avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Loco throws a punch but it's blocked by Banks.

Banks wants to stand but Loco is controlling his posture from full guard.
Banks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Banks's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Banks wants to stand and escape but instead Loco has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Stephen Banks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Banks trying to keep a closed guard but Loco is proving a slippery customer.

Banks seems keen to control Loco's posture.
Banks lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Loco has Banks pulled in close to control his posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Stephen Banks.
Well Banks has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
