Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson has Hayden up against the cage in a clinch.

Johnson breaks from the clinch.

Johnson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Johnson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Hayden is defending well for now.
Johnson misses with a body punch.
A bit of stalling here from Johnson.

Johnson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hayden uses from the top position.
Hayden loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hayden will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Johnson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Johnson creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Hayden's defenses.

Hayden is trying to break the clinch but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.

Johnson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hayden paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hayden avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hayden napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Johnson is chipping away with strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Johnson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Johnson tries to clinch but Hayden is having none of it.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Johnson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hayden tries to pull guard but Johnson holds him up against the cage and eventually Hayden drops back down to his feet.

It looks like Columbus Hayden has been cut.

Johnson controls Hayden momentarily but Hayden frees himself.

Johnson is working an open guard so Hayden takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Johnson fails in his attempt to clinch.

Johnson clinches up against the cage.
Johnson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Johnson jumps into guard, dragging Hayden to the mat.
Hayden is looking to work some ground and pound but Johnson has wrist control.

Johnson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hayden stacks Johnson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hayden!
Johnson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hayden off and has taken his back!

Hayden rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hayden to regain full guard.

Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hayden really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Johnson has gone for a leg lock! Hayden slips out almost immediately though and dives into Johnson's guard.


Johnson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Johnson lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Johnson gets underhooks to prevent Hayden's takedown attempt.
Johnson lands an elbow that stopped Hayden in his tracks for a moment.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Johnson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hayden escapes and throws Johnson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

James Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Columbus Hayden's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Hayden jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Johnson walks away with a smile on his face. Hayden gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Johnson darts in and clinches Hayden up against the cage.

Johnson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hayden postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Johnson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Hayden wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
James Johnson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

James Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
