The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez misses with a hook.
Bbq drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bbq wants to lay and pray for a moment but Valdez keeps working.
Valdez is trying to escape the position but Bbq is controlling the position.
Bbq throws a strike aimed at the side of Valdez's head but Valdez avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bbq tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Valdez is not content to let Bbq control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bbq tries to move into full mount but can't pass Valdez's legs.

Bbq goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Valdez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bbq but great work by Valdez.

Valdez seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Bbq has recovered full guard.
Bbq utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bbq has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Valdez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bbq has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Valdez has managed to get both his arms back between Bbq's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bbq shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bbq showed some decent athleticism there.
Valdez is refusing to be controlled, as Bbq sits in half guard.
Valdez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bbq on the ground.
Bbq takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Bbq closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Valdez to the mat! Valdez manages to get full guard.
Al Bbq has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bbq postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Valdez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bbq, into his guard.

Bbq is pulling down on Valdez's head. It's preventing any offense from Valdez, at least for the moment.

Bbq is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Bbq has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Valdez regains guard immediately.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bbq accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Bbq is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Valdez defends it well.
