PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Pacheco (ranked 3960 p4p, 194 weight class) and Mick Mulvaney (ranked 3058 p4p, 152 weight class). Mulvaney comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Rocky Road To Dublin kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Pacheco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mick Mulvaney!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mulvaney chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Pacheco fails with a takedown attempt.
Mulvaney throws a low kick but Pacheco avoids it.
Mulvaney lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pacheco circles away quickly and effectively.
Mulvaney changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A combination from Mulvaney does no damage.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mulvaney.
Pacheco shoots in for a double leg but Mulvaney sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mulvaney throws a head kick but Pacheco moves out of range.
Pacheco half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Mulvaney pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mulvaney has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Pacheco is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Pacheco shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Mulvaney throws a right hand that Pacheco ducks under and follows up with a left that Pacheco also avoids with ease.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pacheco bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The strikes coming from Pacheco are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Pacheco has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mulvaney is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Pacheco will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pacheco wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mulvaney, who protects the arm well.
Mulvaney wants to get back to his feet.
Mulvaney is not content to let Pacheco control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mulvaney can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pacheco moves to take his opponent's back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pacheco has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Mulvaney has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Pacheco looking to break Mulvaney's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mulvaney remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Pacheco will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Pacheco has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Mulvaney's body.
Mulvaney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pacheco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pacheco punches the canvas rather than the man.

Mulvaney is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pacheco gets his way!

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Pacheco will probably get the nod.

Pacheco seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pacheco tries to control but Mulvaney wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mulvaney's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Pacheco looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Mulvaney wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mulvaney is squirming around, avoiding Pacheco's attempts to control the action.
Pacheco moves to back control.

Pacheco is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Mulvaney won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Pacheco off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jose Pacheco!
A very excited looking Jose Pacheco made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
