Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Damen Mayer (ranked 1674 p4p, 183 weight class) and Jesse Henley (ranked 3531 p4p, 332 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Damen Mayer!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesse Henley!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henley gets caught flat footed, as Mayer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Mayer is pressing down on Henley's thigh, looking to free his foot. Henley is holding on for now.

Mayer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Henley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Henley is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mayer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Henley.

Henley seems to be looking for submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Henley is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mayer is just riding it out for now. Henley eventually gives up the hold.
Mayer is looking to improve his position.
Mayer slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Mayer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Henley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Henley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Henley has gone for a leg lock! Mayer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Henley's guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Mayer's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Mayer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mayer is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Henley to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Henley shrugs it off.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mayer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
