Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Calderon (ranked 24742 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caua Gusmao (ranked 6311 p4p, 0 weight class). Caua Gusmao will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Caua Gusmao!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Winston Howard and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gusmao rushes Calderon and presses him up against the cage.
Calderon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gusmao closes the distance and clinches.
Gusmao tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Calderon's elbow.
Calderon blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Gusmao misses with a hook from the clinch.
Calderon goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gusmao fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Gusmao is trying to force a seperation but Calderon has the dominant position.
Gusmao lands a body punch in the clinch.
Calderon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Calderon gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Gusmao should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The fight stays on the outside here - Calderon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gusmao gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Gusmao is pushing Calderon up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Gusmao tries to throw a body punch but Calderon avoids it by throwing Gusmao back against the cage.
Calderon blocks a punch to the side of the head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A head punch on the inside from Gusmao fails to land.
Gusmao tries to stall but Calderon uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Gusmao has had enough of the clinch but Calderon keeps him there for the moment.
Gusmao tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Gusmao throws a punch but it's blocked by Calderon.
Gusmao looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Calderon blocks an uppercut.
Calderon tries to work over Gusmao's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Calderon drags the fight down to the ground.

Gusmao looking to sit in guard and control but Calderon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gusmao working a defensive guard but Calderon passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calderon takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Gusmao is trying to stand.
Calderon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Calderon seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gusmao is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Calderon jumps into side control!

Gusmao tries to work over Calderon's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Calderon tries to land knees in the clinch but Gusmao avoids the damage to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gusmao uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Calderon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
No joy there for Gusmao, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rodrigo Calderon will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Calderon pushes Gusmao up against the cage in a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Gusmao swings wildly with an uppercut but Calderon uses good head movement to avoid it.
Calderon pulls Gusmao into guard.
Gusmao content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Calderon has locked up a guillotine! Calderon's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Gusmao is holding on here and Calderon must be using up a lot of energy. Gusmao has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Calderon gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
