PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kisame Hoshigaki (ranked 2002 p4p, 265 weight class) and Evan Better (ranked 1727 p4p, 240 weight class). Hoshigaki kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is HMMM!. Better has chosen Mother by Danzig as his entrance music. Evan Better has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kisame Hoshigaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 22 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evan Better!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Hoshigaki.
Better appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
A head kick by Hoshigaki misses
and Better counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Better is looking to chop away at Hoshigaki's legs.
Better rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hoshigaki counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Hoshigaki is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Better.
Better misses the shot to the body.
A left and a right from Better both land. Nice combination.
Good leg kick by Better there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Hoshigaki tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Hoshigaki throws a nice looking combination but Better bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Better finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Better shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hoshigaki manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hoshigaki is wriggling around but Better manages to pass to half guard.
Better wants to pass the guard but Hoshigaki is defending well.
Hoshigaki trying to control from the bottom.
Hoshigaki trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Better manages to pass to mount!
Better prevents Hoshigaki from getting the reversal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoshigaki wants to hold on but Better pushes him away.
Better landing strikes, looking to finish!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Better wants to control the pace but Hoshigaki is squirming around nicely.
Hoshigaki wants to control but Better is having none of it.
Better thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Hoshigaki is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Hoshigaki is working to get back to half guard.
Hoshigaki gets back to half guard.

Hoshigaki wants to get back to his feet.
Hoshigaki is holding on to half guard well.
Hoshigaki wants to control but Better is keeping busy.
Better wants to take a breather but Hoshigaki is having none of it.
Better prevents Hoshigaki from improving his position.
Hoshigaki makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hoshigaki.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Better wants to pass the guard but Hoshigaki is keeping the position.
Hoshigaki is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hoshigaki looks to throw the jab but Better is out of range.

Better closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hoshigaki quickly recovers to half guard.
Better stalling away here and it's allowed Hoshigaki to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Better is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Evan Better dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Better misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hoshigaki dodges the punch combination from Better.
Hoshigaki tests Better's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A big right from Better misses.
Evan Better seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Better shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Better scores with a hook to the body. Hoshigaki takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Better misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Better has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Better has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Better throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hoshigaki's waist but Hoshigaki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Better off to one side.

Better drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Better working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Better misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Hoshigaki is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Hoshigaki wants to control but Better postures up.
Evan Better has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hoshigaki is looking to reverse the position.
Better working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Better swings around for an armbar but Hoshigaki sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Better's guard.
Hoshigaki controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hoshigaki has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Hoshigaki wants to control from the top but Better keeps moving.
Hoshigaki trying to stand up but can't free himself from Better's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoshigaki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Better pushes a forearm under Hoshigaki's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Hoshigaki is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Evan Better!
Our winner, Evan Better, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
