PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thybault Paredes (ranked 3120 p4p, 298 weight class) and Simon Jensen (ranked 4937 p4p, 422 weight class). Jensen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Imagine Dragons - On Top of the World kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Simon Jensen!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paredes pivots, looking for a leg kick but Jensen is out of range and Paredes settles back down.
Nice takedown defense from Paredes. No joy for Jensen on that attempt.
Paredes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Paredes punishes Jensen's body with a nice straight punch.
Paredes scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Jensen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paredes circles away.
Paredes missing with a left hand there. Jensen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Paredes misses with an uppercut. Jensen saw that one coming.
Jensen shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jensen drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Paredes defends it well.
Jensen has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
We've been hearing reports that Paredes has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Jensen counters with a single leg into guard. Paredes didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jensen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Paredes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Jensen told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Jensen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Paredes.

Paredes goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Simon Jensen has been cut.

Paredes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jensen is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Paredes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Thybault Paredes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight stays on the outside here - Jensen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jensen shoots in but Paredes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Thybault Paredes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Simon Jensen.
Paredes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jensen takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Paredes throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Jensen colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Paredes as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Jensen is left battered and dazed whilst Paredes and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Thybault Paredes!
An out of breath Thybault Paredes thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
