Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Hudson (ranked 3422 p4p, 319 weight class) and Theodore Montgomery (ranked 5477 p4p, 472 weight class). Theodore Montgomery has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jeff Hudson's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jeff Hudson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Theodore Montgomery!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hudson shoots in and bounces Montgomery off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hudson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Montgomery swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hudson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Montgomery really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hudson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hudson is working Montgomery over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hudson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hudson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hudson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hudson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hudson shoots in looking for a takedown but Montgomery manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hudson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Montgomery connects with a looping right hand.
Hudson closes the distance and clinches up with Montgomery, looking for a takedown. Hudson pushes Montgomery against the cage but Montgomery circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Hudson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A punch lands to the side of Hudson 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Theodore Montgomery is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Montgomery will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Montgomery cracks Hudson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Hudson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Montgomery manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hudson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That was a close round but I would say that Jeff Hudson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Hudson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hudson shoots in for a takedown but Montgomery shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Montgomery lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hudson circles away quickly and effectively.

Hudson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Montgomery moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Montgomery throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Hudson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hudson showed some decent athleticism there.
Hudson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Montgomery!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hudson has hold of Montgomery's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Montgomery manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Montgomery is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jeff Hudson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Montgomery has given up his back here. Will Hudson look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Hudson is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Montgomery knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Montgomery for a finish.
Montgomery wants to control his opponent's hands but Hudson gets his hands free.
Montgomery felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hudson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Montgomery has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Hudson is trying to stick to Montgomery's back but Montgomery is turning into Hudson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Hudson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Montgomery.

Montgomery has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Hudson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Montgomery is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Hudson pulls down on the head and he's put Montgomery to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jeff Hudson!
After the fight, Jeff Hudson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
