PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arvo Laar (ranked 2904 p4p, 380 weight class) and Buddy Brandon (ranked 5026 p4p, 568 weight class). Laar comes into the arena with some random 90's estonia dance song i found on youtube blaring out of the sound system. Brandon has chosen All Summer Long as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arvo Laar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Buddy Brandon!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Dean Styles and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Laar misses
letting Brandon counter with a right hand.
Laar looks to score with a jab to the body but Brandon is just out of range.
Laar attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Brandon tries a head kick but it misses.
Laar tried to score with a low kick but Brandon checks it.

Brandon drives through with a takedown into guard.
Laar wants to stand and escape but Brandon is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brandon preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brandon with a flurry of punches that miss.

Laar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Laar can't keep his opponent in guard - Brandon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brandon wants to pass to mount but Laar is defending the position.
Laar is trying to stand.
Brandon thows a huge punch but Laar dodges it nicely.
Laar is trying to stand back up but Brandon is controlling him
Laar tries to kick Brandon off in order to stand up. Brandon Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Laar is trying to get back to his feet.
Brandon is looking to take a break and control but Laar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Laar is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Brandon has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brandon scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Laar to see if he's OK.

Laar bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Laar does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Laar tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Brandon is able to avoid easily.

and Brandon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Brandon.
Brandon trying to control the position from guard on top but Laar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brandon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Laar's guard.
Brandon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Brandon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Laar has managed to free his arm - good work.
Laar avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brandon.

Ground and pound from Brandon.
Laar wants to get back to his feet.
Brandon prevents Laar from improving his position.
Laar tries to kick Brandon off but Brandon keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Brandon drops an elbow to the side of Laar's head.
Laar tries to roll over but Brandon keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Laar trying to control here.
Laar is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Laar pushes Brandon off looking to stand but Brandon dives back in and keeps control.

Laar looking for submissions off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brandon slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Laar tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Brandon moves into the clinch.
Brandon slowing the pace effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buddy Brandon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brandon scores with a jab to the head.
Some bone on bone action there as Brandon checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Brandon tries to counter by closing the distance.
Laar throws a low kick but it's checked well by Brandon.
Laar with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Brandon to score with a decent uppercut.
Brandon lands a high kick!
Laar tries to work over Brandon's front leg with a kick but Brandon checks it.
That kick from Laar tenderised Brandon's leg. Brandon is trying to keep his angry face on.
Laar looks to score with a jab to the body but Brandon is just out of range.
Laar throws a leg kick that is checked

and Brandon counters with a nice double leg into side control. Laar won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Laar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Brandon asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Brandon lands a nice forearm strike.
Laar tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Laar regains half guard.

Brandon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Laar has one foot on Brandon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Brandon moves into the clinch successfully.
Laar taking a breather.
Brandon tries for a takedown but Laar manages to get underhooks.
Brandon has Laar pressed against the cage, preventing Laar from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Brandon blocks a body shot from Laar.
Brandon is looking for a takedown.
Brandon tries to pull guard but Laar forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Arvo Laar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buddy Brandon.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brandon is defended easily by Laar.
Brandon misses with a looping right.
Laar lands with a thumping leg kick.
Brandon takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Brandon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Brandon is standing up over Laar. Laar looks to escape but Brandon dives into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Laar is pushing Brandon's head away, looking to escape. Brandon manages to hold on to the position though.
Laar takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Buddy Brandon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Laar struggling a bit here.
Brandon in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Brandon is staying tight to Laar's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Laar is not content to let Brandon control the position.
Laar is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brandon lands a decent elbow from side control.
Brandon is putting a hurting on Laar here, landing some big shots from side control.
Laar gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Laar wants to get back to his feet.
Brandon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buddy Brandon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Laar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brandon.
Laar throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Laar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Brandon manages to avoid it.
Brandon avoids the body shot from Laar.

Brandon looking to sit in guard and control but Laar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Laar wants to control from the top but Brandon keeps moving.
Laar wants to pass the guard but Brandon is keeping the position.

Brandon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Brandon pulls Laar in close to his closed guard and prevents Laar from doing any damage or advancing position.

Laar has gone for a leg lock! Brandon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Laar's guard.

Brandon stands and throws Laar's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Brandon lands some shots froms side control.

Laar wants to get back to his feet but Brandon drags him back down.
Laar is looking to get back to his feet here but Brandon is keeping cool and he's managed to take Laar's back.
Laar tries to break free.
Laar trying to get back to his feet but Brandon is in full control for now.
Brandon slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Laar staying busy and making it hard for Brandon to control.
Laar is trying to stand back up.
You can see the frustration on Laar's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Brandon is trying to stick to Laar's back but Laar is turning into Brandon. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Brandon's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Laar.
Brandon has control of Laar's left arm, preventing Laar from doing any damage.
Laar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brandon is keeping the position for now.

Brandon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Buddy Brandon is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Brandon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Laar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Buddy Brandon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brandon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
