PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Edelman (ranked 7521 p4p, 661 weight class) and TJ Barakus (ranked 8708 p4p, 694 weight class). Edelman's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Sympathy for the Devil. TJ Barakus struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. TJ Barakus has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, TJ Barakus!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barakus looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Edelman!
Edelman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Edelman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Edelman wants to sweep but no luck.

Edelman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barakus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edelman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Barakus defends well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barakus wants to get up but he can't break Edelman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Edelman throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Barakus must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Barakus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Edelman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We've been hearing that Edelman has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Edelman is keen to just control but Barakus is a slippery customer.
Barakus tries to kick Edelman off but Edelman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Barakus manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Edelman on his heels. He'll look to pass Edelman's guard now, I'm sure.

Edelman has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Barakus is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Barakus has Edelman pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Barakus pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Edelman tumbling to the mat - Barakus dives into Edelman's guard.

Edelman has his feet on Barakus's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barakus tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Edelman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barakus defends it easily.

Edelman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Barakus's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Edelman has his foot on Barakus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barakus works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Edelman doesn't manage to clinch there - Barakus circles away.

Barakus closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Barakus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Barakus goes for a cartwheel guard pass here but Edelman does a handstand and catches Barakus in mid air with a triangle! Could it be? It is! It's the triple decker pecker wrecker! The fighters land on the ground with Edelman on top - Barakus is already out from the submission! Edelman gives Barakus's pecker the obligatory post submission twist and this one is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall over! Are you kidding me! That is world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. That guy is my hero!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (TDPW) . Thomas Edelman!
