Kovalchick is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Ukrainian . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kovalchick fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brute, pushing him back against the cage.
Brute tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kovalchick just stands there and leans against the cage.
Brute is trying to force a seperation but Kovalchick has the dominant position.

Brute manages to pull guard.

Kovalchick stands up and waves to Brute to follow him.
Kovalchick tries to clinch up
letting Brute counter with a right hand.

Kovalchick closes the distance and clinches.
Brute tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kovalchick just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kovalchick connects with a knee to the head.

It looks like Brian Brute has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kovalchick using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Brute has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Kovalchick told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

Kovalchick seems to be stalking Brute here. He circles momentarily and then unleashes a devastating head kick! Brute drops like a stone, out cold! WOW! Are you kidding me!? What a knockout!
