Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lynn Valdez (ranked 25777 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Shawcross (ranked 6613 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Lynn Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryan Shawcross!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shawcross tries to clinch up but Valdez circles away and keeps his distance.
Valdez seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Valdez looks for a takedown but Shawcross sprawls well.
Some bone on bone action there as Valdez checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Valdez gets caught flat footed, as Shawcross shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Shawcross engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Valdez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Shawcross escapes and throws Valdez's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valdez regains half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shawcross content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Shawcross is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Shawcross looks to land a strike but Valdez avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Shawcross sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Valdez's guard.
Shawcross is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Shawcross stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Valdez to get to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Valdez enables Shawcross to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Valdez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Shawcross is pushing down on Valdez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Valdez is fighting to maintain full guard but Shawcross has managed to sneak the leg through.
Shawcross is looking to pass Valdez's guard but actually Valdez recovers to full guard.

Shawcross stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Shawcross changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Valdez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Valdez throws Shawcross to one side and escapes!
Shawcross pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shawcross leaves Valdez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Valdez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shawcross lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Valdez circles away quickly and effectively.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Shawcross dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shawcross throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Valdez keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Shawcross drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Valdez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Shawcross presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Shawcross wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Valdez has him pressed against the cage.

Shawcross has hold of one of Valdez's legs. Valdez is fighting the takedown attempt but Shawcross gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Valdez wants to get back to his feet but Shawcross passes into half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Valdez is defending against the submission attempts here by Shawcross.

Shawcross stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Shawcross throws a sloppy head kick and Valdez moves out of range easily.

Valdez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shawcross was covering up waiting for the punch and Valdez finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Shawcross scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Shawcross stuffs the takedown.
Valdez fails to land the takedown.
Shawcross lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Valdez at a distance.

Shawcross clinches up with Valdez and pushes him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Shawcross ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shawcross no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Valdez really is a fat lump.

Valdez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Shawcross is trying to keep Valdez in close.

Shawcross is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Shawcross not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Shawcross manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Valdez manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Valdez looking for a guillotine here but Shawcross defends easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Shawcross decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Valdez, up you get!
Valdez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shawcross sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Valdez somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lynn Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Valdez gets caught napping as Shawcross dives in and scores a takedown. Valdez manages to retain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Shawcross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Valdez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Valdez tries to keep at a distance but Shawcross has taken the fight into the clinch.

Valdez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Shawcross keeping moving, preventing Valdez from controlling successfully.
Valdez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Shawcross is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Valdez is fighting to break Shawcross's control of his arms but Shawcross is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Valdez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Shawcross shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shawcross was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Valdez wants to get back to his feet but Shawcross is dominant here and he's now got Valdez's back!

Shawcross keeps control of the position easily here as Valdez tries to buck him off.

Valdez breaks Shawcross's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Shawcross is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Valdez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Shawcross is trying to keep Valdez in close.
Shawcross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Valdez lands a couple of decent looking shots.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ryan Shawcross.
Well Shawcross has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
