PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Rackham (ranked 2620 p4p, 279 weight class) and Marco Polo (ranked 3119 p4p, 308 weight class). Polo has chosen On The Floor as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Marco Polo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Rackham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marco Polo!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rackham lands a nice looking body shot.
Polo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Horrible takedown attempt by Polo or perhaps it was just good defense by Rackham, which made it look bad.
Rackham motions for Polo to come forward. Rackham throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Rackham moves into range and clinches up with Polo.
A head punch on the inside from Rackham fails to land.
Polo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Polo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rackham jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Rackham cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Polo feints and as Rackham raises his hands in defense, Polo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rackham is fighting off a takedown attempt but Polo is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rackham to the mat. Rackham regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Rackham is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rackham has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Polo is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Polo takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Rackham stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rackham wants it to stay on the feet.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Polo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Polo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Polo has gone for a leg lock! Rackham slips out almost immediately though and dives into Polo's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Polo lands a big shot there that rocks Rackham but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Polo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Polo wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Rackham will probably get the nod.

It looks like Marco Polo has been cut.
Rackham lands a shoulder strike.
Polo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rackham smiles and moves away.
Polo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rackham as he avoids it easily.
Polo dives in and grabs Rackham's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rackham pushes down on Polo's head and hops out.
Polo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Polo lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Nice sprawl there from Rackham as Polo shoots in.

Rackham darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Rackham connects with a good right hand that stumbles Polo. Polo circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Rackham showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rackham, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
