PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Mammoth (ranked 574 p4p, 17 weight class) and Vitaly Karelin (ranked 373 p4p, 20 weight class). Mammoth's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I came to bring the pain. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anton Mammoth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Vitaly Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mammoth throws a sloppy body shot
letting Karelin counter with a right hand.
A swing and a miss from Mammoth.
Good exchange - Mammoth coming out on top.


It looks like Vitaly Karelin has been cut.
Mammoth throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Karelin misses with a wild body shot.
Karelin misses with a hook.

Karelin has his takedown stuffed

and Mammoth counters with a shoot takedown. Karelin fights it but they end up in guard.
Karelin controls Mammoth momentarily but Mammoth frees himself.
Mammoth pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Karelin is keeping the position for now.
Karelin looking for a sweep. Not yet Karelin, not yet.
Mammoth works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mammoth is trying to control the action in half guard but Karelin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mammoth trying to control the pace.
Karelin is looking to control Mammoth's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Karelin avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karelin manages to get to full guard.
Mammoth trying to control but Karelin is working from the bottom.

Mammoth drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mammoth jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Karelin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mammoth manages to get himself to full guard.

Karelin wants to pass the guard but Mammoth is keeping the position.
Mammoth will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karelin postures up.
Mammoth preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mammoth utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Karelin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mammoth has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Karelin has managed to get both his arms back between Mammoth's legs - danger averted.

Karelin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Karelin is looking to work some ground and pound but Mammoth has wrist control.
Mammoth looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Karelin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mammoth seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Karelin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mammoth's head.
Karelin trying to control but Mammoth is working from the bottom.

Karelin postures up and lands a big shot to Mammoth's brow.
Karelin postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Mammoth covers up, he's hurt! Karelin keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Karelin and the ref steps in to end the fight! Karelin can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Vitaly Karelin!
An out of breath Vitaly Karelin thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
