PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zdravko Dren (ranked 2248 p4p, 272 weight class) and Apollo Gutz (ranked 2801 p4p, 333 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Dren might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to GETO BOYS - mind of a lunatic. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Apollo Gutz!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutz tries to close the distance and clinch but Dren swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Left hook, right uppercut from Dren.
Gutz looks for a takedown but Dren sprawls well.
Dren feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gutzs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Gutz slips a jab from Dren.
Gutz defending well as Dren loads up on a big left hand.
Gutz slips a straight right by Dren.
Dren misses with a body kick.
Dren scores with a hook.
A shot to the liver by Dren. Beautiful body shot.
Dren throws a head kick but Gutz moves out of range.
Dren jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Dren moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dren tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gutz was well out of range. Poor timing from Dren.

Gutz has closed the distance and engaged Dren in a clinch.
Gutz throws an elbow but it's blocked.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dren tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Gutz just misses with a elbow thrown towards Dren's brow.

Dren breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dren throws a nice looking combination but Gutz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dren bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gutz's head.
Dren misses with a looping left.
Gutz shoots in and drives through. Dren sprawls well.
No luck for Gutz with that takedown attempt.
Zdravko Dren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Apollo Gutz.
Dren throws a hook but Gutz avoids it easily.
Dren fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gutz manages to avoid it.
Gutz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dren swivels and escapes.

Gutz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Dren trying to keep a closed guard but Gutz is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gutz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dren, up you get!
Dren getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Dren misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dren lands a jab to Gutz's midsection.
Dren lands a high kick!
Dren cracks Gutz with an open hand slap.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Dren escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck for Gutz with that takedown attempt.
Dren will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gutz has a takedown stuffed.
Gutz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dren.
Dren throws a chopping leg kick but Gutz manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Dren lands a big head kick that sends Gutz tumbling to the mat! Dren takes a step backwards and waves Gutz back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Apollo Gutz has been cut.

Dren sends Gutz crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Dren is motioning to the referee to let Gutz up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Gutz is rocked!
Gutz leaves his chin hanging out and Dren seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Gutz crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Zdravko Dren!

A relieved looking Zdravko Dren thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
