PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Don Fagaro (ranked 2386 p4p, 253 weight class) and Larson Picker (ranked 650 p4p, 74 weight class). Larson Picker told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Fagaro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Larson Picker!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Picker throws a looping overhand right but Fagaro ducks down to avoid it.

Fagaro rushes Picker and presses him up against the cage.

Picker breaks the clinch.
Picker misses with a shot to the body
and Fagaro counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Fagaro keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Picker.
Fagaro bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Picker throws a right hand that Fagaro ducks under and follows up with a left that Fagaro also avoids with ease.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Picker closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Fagaro looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Fagaro fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fagaro avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
It looked like Fagaro wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Picker just misses with a punch to the body.

Picker tries to keep at a distance but Fagaro has taken the fight into the clinch.

Fagaro turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Fagaro working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Picker pushes Fagaro away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Fagaro gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Picker takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Fagaro misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Picker explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

and Fagaro counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Larson Picker has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fagaro uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Picker.
Picker misses with a double jab
and Fagaro connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Picker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fagaro is looking to clinch.

Picker gets caught flat footed, as Fagaro shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Picker is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Fagaro presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fagaro keeps control of Picker as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Fagaro lands a shoulder strike.
A nice right hand lands inside from Fagaro.
Fagaro has Picker pressed against the cage, preventing Picker from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Fagaro is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Picker to keep the fight standing.

Picker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fagaro avoids a punch combination nicely.
Picker connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Fagaro moves away from the strike by Picker.

Fagaro shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fagaro is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Fagaro in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Picker tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Fagaro!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Don Fagaro!
A very excited looking Don Fagaro rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
